Sant Sarwan Dass Ji
Sant Sarwan Dass Ji was the second spiritual leader (Gaddi-Nashin) of Dera Sachkhand Ballan, who played a key role in strengthening its spiritual foundation and expanding its influence.
His life was dedicated to devotion, service, and spreading the teachings of Shri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj.
Early Life
Sant Sarwan Dass Ji was born on 15th February 1895 in village Gill Patti, District Bathinda, to Baba Pipal Dass Ji and Bibi Shobhawanti Ji.
At a young age, he moved with his father to village Ballan (Jalandhar district), where Dera Sachkhand Ballan is situated today. He received his early education under his father’s guidance.
Spiritual Work and Teachings
Sant Sarwan Dass Ji was deeply respected by the local community for his spiritual dedication and service.
He guided people through Naamdaan (spiritual initiation) and worked for the upliftment of the underprivileged. He also promoted education among poor communities and personally taught children, including the bani of Shri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj.
Meditation and Influence
Sant Sarwan Dass Ji spent long periods in meditation at the historical Mandir of Dera Sachkhand Ballan.
A piece of land was donated by Sardar Hazara Singh of village Ballan, where spiritual gatherings and activities grew steadily. Under his influence, the sangat (community of devotees) expanded significantly.
Contribution to Janam Asthan Mandir
Sant Sarwan Dass Ji played an important role in the development of Shri Guru Ravidass Janam Asthan Mandir in Varanasi.
Along with Sant Hari Dass Ji and Sant Garib Dass Ji, he contributed to planning and initiating the project. The foundation stone was laid on 14th June 1965, and construction continued with the support of dedicated followers.
Later, the Moorti of Shri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj and Sant Sarwan Dass Ji was installed on 22 February 1974.
Legacy
Sant Sarwan Dass Ji helped establish Dera Sachkhand Ballan as a major center of spiritual learning, devotion, and community service.
His work reflects the core values found in the Teachings of Shri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj and the principles of the Ravidassia religion.
Final Years
Sant Sarwan Dass Ji left for his heavenly abode on June 11, 1972.
