
Vienna Temple Attack 2009 – Sant Ramanand Ji Martyrdom
Introduction
On 24th May 2009, Sant Ramanand Ji was attacked at the Shri Guru Ravidass Temple in Vienna, Austria. He later succumbed to his injuries on 25th May 2009.
Background
Sant Ramanand Ji was initiated as a saint by Sant Garib Dass Ji of Dera Ballan. He was widely regarded as a prominent leader of the Ravidassia community and dedicated his life to promoting equality, education, and spiritual growth.
Born on 2nd February 1952 in Punjab to Shri Mehnga Ram Ji and Shrimati Jeet Kaur Ji, he devoted his life to uplifting society and challenging discrimination based on caste.
Mission and Teachings
Throughout his life, Sant Ramanand Ji worked to promote:

- Rejection of caste-based discrimination
- Spiritual growth through meditation and devotion
He travelled extensively across the United Kingdom, USA, Canada, and Europe, spreading the teachings of Shri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj.
The Vienna Incident
On 24th May 2009, during a religious gathering in Vienna, Sant Ramanand Ji and other members of the congregation were attacked.
He was critically injured and later passed away on 25th May 2009.
During the incident, Sant Niranjan Dass Ji and several others were also injured.
Impact on the Community
The incident deeply affected the global Ravidassia community.
It became a turning point that led to the formal recognition and consolidation of the Ravidassia religion, strengthening its independent identity and spiritual path.
